Hold That Elevator, Please, I've Got a Vote to Make
House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer interrupted a scheduled five-minute floor vote Wednesday to do what he and his predecessors have done repeatedly over the years — warn that there would be no more extended time limits for votes.

Rep. Neil Abercrombie [D-HI]: I don't think anybody is going to argue with you, Mr. Majority Leader, but that means that you have got to do something about the elevators. I mean it. I'm not kidding. If you are going to make it work, if you are going to make the 15 minutes work, we have to have people in the elevators or the doorkeepers or somebody keeping everybody out of the elevators.

Rep. Steny Hoyer [D-MD]: Reclaiming my time, ladies and gentlemen, if the elevators are slow, you leave with 10 minutes remaining on the vote. You be here.

H.Res. 812: Expressing the sympathy and pledging the urgent support of the House of Representatives and the people of the United States for the victims of the devastating flooding in southern Mexico.
Passed 421-0
