GOP Proposal Would Fund Our Troops Without the Strings Designed to Undermine Success in Iraq
House Republicans are offering a motion-to-recommit proposal to cut the "withdrawal language" in the Democrats' bill that ties the hands of General Petraeus and chokes off funding for our troops. Specifically, the proposal would cut the provisions which would mandate premature withdrawal of our troops - despite their continued success - as they stabilize Iraq and preserve our national security interests in the region. The proposal preserves the underlying reporting requirements tracking the security, political, and economic progress the Iraqis are making.
