The Fair Tax

[Page: H2303] GPO's PDF

---

(Mr. WOODALL asked and was given permission to address the House for 1 minute and to revise and extend his remarks.)

Mr. WOODALL. Mr. Speaker, I rise today as tax day is fast approaching. We've heard a lot about the budget that's being introduced today. I'm a proud supporter of this budget because in this country we don't have a revenue problem; we have a spending problem. But what we do have is a problem with the way that we contribute revenue to this country.

There is a better way, and it is called the Fair Tax. The Fair Tax will take the burden off American taxpayers paying on what they earn and change it to a burden on what they spend. The power to tax is the power to destroy, and when we tax income and productivity, we destroy that income and productivity.

Do you want to talk about jobs in this country? Do you want to talk about a magnet for jobs in this country? The Fair Tax is the only bill in Congress that abolishes every single corporate tax break, tax loophole and tax preference. It abolishes the corporate income tax rate and tells international businesses they can locate here with the most powerful, hardest working workers on this planet.

Folks, H.R. 25, the Fair Tax, is a better way. As you fill out your tax forms this year, think about how we could do it differently next time around.

  1. As a former Fairtax supporter, let me assure you, Fairtax sounds great but is total nonsense.

Not a little nonsense, not sorta nonsense, but total nonsense.

Oh you can have a national sales tax -- yes. I love the idea. But not at 23%, not at 33%, not even at 43%.

Fairtax has distorted the math so absurdly -- and knowingly so. This is no innocent "oversight"

Fairtax has left out an entire "second tier" of taxation -- a trillion dollar "detail". They don't mention it in their books, video, or speeches, and while their spokesmen defend this trillion dollar second tier as "absolutely necessasary" -- it's also absolutely bogus.

They can't collect a dime of this second tier --and they know it. That is why they hid it!

Fairtax was RIGHT when it said "only people pay taxes" -- but then they pretend to tax all city, all state, all county, and even the federal government, for well over 1 trillion dollars. They hide this absurdity in one sentence -- I'm not kidding.

Oh they go on and on about why the MUST tax the government. Fact is,

    1) they hid this for a reason

    2) Only people pay taxes, so pretending the government will pay a trillion is a hoax.

Learn what Fairtax spokesman say about it -- three of them. Official Fairtax spokesmen. They tried to explain away this trillion dollar hidden tax as a "detail" --- one they "are going to explain fully later".

So they FINALLY admitted this second tier of taxation -- and they admit it was essentially hidden.

Then they claim "Oh well, so what, government will SAVE that much, or more!"

Los Angeles City government will save 600 million? Because that is what just that one city will owe. California state government will save 15 billion __ BILLION -- because that is what the state government will owe. Every city -- Knoxville TN, 30 million owed for Fairtax. Texas state government --9 billion.

Not just city and states - but Medicare, the Pentagon. And even more insane, Fairtax COUNTS THIS AS INCOME! Not as an expense.

They do it all -- in their FINE print. It's goofy, it's preposterous nonsense.

Now you know why they have avoided hearings for 13 years.

Government CAN NOT pay taxes -- CAN NOT -- because they would just pass the cost along. Remember, Fairtax says corporations can't pay it -- that's a "cruel hoax"! But they have no trouble sneaking in a trillion dollar tax on government, and government would have to pass the costs along, at least as much as corporations do.

And Fairtax KNOWS this. That is why they hid this.
